On Thursday 17th March the Rita Mayne England Collection, a collection of “theology and cultures in Asia”, was officially launched. The foundation of this growing collection was the working library of Rev Dr John England and his late wife Rita which was gifted to the Hewitson Library in 2011. The launch was held in association with the public lecture “Transplanted churches, indigenous movements, and the spread of Christianity in Asia” by Professor Mark Mullins from the University of Auckland. Items from the collection are available for loan by anyone in New Zealand – contact the Hewitson Library for details.
John England and his wife Helen lent a selection of artworks and also some books that are still part of their personal collection for display during the event – some photos here:
It is hoped that the collection will be used by other researchers interested in aspects of Theology/Christianity and Asia.
